My daughter’s time has arrived. She finally gets the true meaning of Christmas. She’s in the spirit. No, I’m not talking about the religious stuff. I’m talking holiday decorations. For a couple of years now she has been into the little ceramic village that decorates her room. That’s cool, but that is her and her mother’s deal.
It happened the other night. We were out in the driveway installing the fresh Christmas tree on to its base. She glanced over the cul-de-sac taking in the sights and sizing up the light displays that have already gone up. Then she says to me, “this year we need to beat the neighbors.” Awesome. Game on. It’s good to be the dad. Oh yeah, and I promise we’ll talk about little infant baby Jesus (eight pounds, seven ounces) while we work on lighting up the house this weekend. It’s Christmas for heaven’s sake.

I haven’t touched a keyboard since Thanksgiving. We broke tradition this year and evacuated civilization and spent the entire 4-day holiday weekend in the woods. (we celebrated Thanksgiving on Wednesday) It was stress-free and relaxing. We even had a special guest join us for the weekend at my request. I’m very glad he did. It’s always satisfying to escape the hustle and bustle to get away to a simpler place. It’s nice to make time to clear your mind and reflect on life, love, family and the important stuff in life. I hope he enjoyed his visit as much as we did. Even a caveman needs his space and time.
p.s. - grammer check suggests I say “cave dweller” as to not be gender biased. I’ll take that into consideration.

I have many things to be thankful for: family, health, prosperity, happiness. I’ve been out for a few days so let me just be brief and sum up by saying — Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. This year the cookies were my favorite. Thanks.

Hannah mania has struck my home. My eight year old daughter and her mother have two tickets to tonight’s Hannah Montana show in Tampa. Thankfully, we didn’t need to endure the insanity some folks did to get tickets. I’m thrilled for her that she gets to see her hero live. Heaven knows she’s invested plenty of time studying every episode of her show on the Disney channel. I’m more thrilled that Miley Cyrus is Abbi’s choice of role model versus Britney or Paris. I’m also looking forward to a quiet night home with the boys. It truly is the best of both worlds.

My one year old prompted an emergent visit to the dentist today. He fell and whacked his teeth on a laundry basket. There was bleeding and the fear of wiggling. In the end no major damage was done, but he did stop his mothers heart for a short time I think. God love him.
