My friend and financial guru, Darcey over at Debt2Dreams is hosting a free financial fitness course on Wednesday (November 5th, 2008) at the Winter Haven YMCA.  Contact Darcey if you have any questions.

My lovely wife and I have been working with Darcey over the past several years.  With her help and guidance, we have paid off thousands of dollars in ugly debt.  She’s helped us plan for the transition to a single income family when my wife was leaving work.  Best of all, she doesn’t mind debating the numbers with me when I disagree with a tactic.  We talk it through, and she proves it out on paper (or Excel) making it clear to my common mind.

It’s a funny thing about money.  You don’t know what you don’t know about it.  Many of us didn’t come from a family with money, so our parents were unable to teach us anything about it.  Forget about learning any real-world money management skills at school.  All I learned was how to balance a checkbook.

If you are newly married, just buying your first home, preparing for retirement, whatever — talk to a finance person.  Just one tip could pay for the time, effort, or expense of learning what you don’t know.  In this case, it’s hard to pass up free.

I was going to try and explain the home made music video that my kids unknowingly put on the other day, but I went this route instead to show it. Derek was watching Noggin, because it’s like preschool, on TV. The other kids were kicking it in the other room with the iTunes turned up loud. You couldn’t even hear the volume from the television. Together, their efforts made a new hip hop Wow Wow Wubbzy video they were completely unaware of. My lovely wife and I had a good laugh over it. So here for you is my reinterpretation of what we saw and heard. Enjoy.
